Welcome Letter
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Scientific Organising Committee, it gives us great
pleasure to invite you to the 8th Asian & Oceanian Epilepsy
Congress (AOEC) which will take place in the exciting city of
Melbourne, Australia from October 21st - 24th, 2010. This Congress has
been organised by the regional organisations of the International
League Against Epilepsy and the International Bureau for Epilepsy.
More than 75 local, regional and international speakers will present a
range of topics that are highly relevant to recent scientific, clinical
and social developments in epilepsy. The Scientific Organising
Committee and the Scientific Consultative Committee have been working
arduously to prepare a scientific programme with international appeal.
The main topics of the Congress will be: “Epilepsy Surgery –
Who and When?”, “Outcome in Newly-diagnosed Epilepsy”, “Prevention of
Symptomatic Epilepsy” and “Psychological Wellbeing in Epilepsy”.
In
addition to the main and post main session topics are a range of
parallel sessions which focus on the pertinent issues of epilepsy
practice and research, the Masakazu Seino Memorial Lecture, practical
video sessions, lively debates, interactive workshops, and topical
satellite symposia. The Asian Epilepsy Academy (ASEPA) will once again
organise a series of didactic lectures by world-renowned experts in
their respective fields and precongress workshops on epilepsy surgery
and basic science. A two day programme on Epilepsy and
Society will run in conjunction with the Congress. We are happy to
provide details of the scientific programme with this
announcement.
Contributions from researchers and clinicians with platform and poster
presentations will be an integral part of the scientific
programme. We encourage you to consider submitting abstracts
of current research for presentation at the Congress. Travel bursaries
will be available for delegates below 50 years of age. Please record in
your diary June 11th, 2010 as the deadline for submission of abstracts
and travel bursary applications.
The venue for the Congress is the new Melbourne Convention and
Exhibition Centre, situated in the centre of Melbourne and surrounded
by an abundance of hotels of varying standards and plenty of
restaurants and cafes. Melbourne is recognised as Australia’s
sporting and cultural capital and is notable for its architecture,
restaurants, tram network and beautiful parks and gardens. Melbourne
has a diverse, multicultural society and is consistently ranked as one
of the most liveable cities in the world. There is no doubt
that you will feel at home in Melbourne.
We very much hope to see you and your colleagues in Melbourne for what
promises to be an epilepsy meeting of excellent quality.
With warm regards,
Sincerely,
| A. Simon Harvey (Australia) |
